Ben’s Beliefs

I’m proud to share with you the fact that I am highly despised by the most powerful people in Salem, including many of those in my own party. My positions below are meant to provide you an honest assessment of who I am and what I stand for. We may not agree on everything, but I can assure you this: I will do what’s right, listen and represent your interests in Salem.

The main issues are covered in detail on my homepage. In case you missed it, you can find it here.

  • Oregon’s legislature has one dominant party: the Uniparty. The Uniparty is bipartisan for one reason and one reason only: to protect themselves from you.

They create crises, take your money, then give it to themselves as the “solution.”

This is the one and only issue I can’t solve. But you sure can: with your vote.

  • I will defend the First Amendment Rights of all Oregonians. The right to assemble, say what you want, practice religion as you see fit and redress your grievances with the government will be protected, by me, without compromise.

  • Shall not be infringed means shall not be infringed. I will unequivocally defend the gun rights of all law abiding Oregonians.

  • Your body, your choice. I will protect your right to medical freedom as well as protect the rights of medical doctors to practice medicine with liberty.

  • The State needs to stop medaling with private industry. I reject cronyism and support the free market. The economy will take care of itself when the government gets out of the way.

  • I only want your money if you decide to donate it to me. As your representative, you can count on me to ensure more of your hard earned income stays in your pocket. I support a one page tax code with addendums for write-offs. We must eliminate the CAT tax, stop the Democrat road tolling agenda and keep property taxes away from the legislature. State taxes and spending must be reduced substantially in Oregon. I will never vote in favor of a tax increase.

  • I will defend your property rights from infringement and keep the government out of your business dealings as much as possible. This includes legislative policies designed to price you out of your home, like the “wildfire mapping” bill that was bipartisan.

  • I reject energy policy that eliminates affordable energy sources or interferes substantially with free markets. I support natural gas exploration, the efficient use of fossil fuels and exploration of clean nuclear energy.

  • Questions of election integrity hurt and divide all Oregonians. We need election policies in Oregon that garner confidence.

But both Democrats and Republicans have passed laws to make our elections less secure.

I believe the most secure elections include in-person voting, hand-counted ballots, with observers present representing all parties.

  • I believe in the the American system of justice, but it has flaws and I plan to fix them.

It is the constitutional right, for all Americans accused of a crime, to have a State funded defense attorney. But low income defendants are faced with a tremendous disadvantage vs. prosecutors in regard to resources and attention. Public Defenders are paid below market rate and are often forced to take on heavy case loads and can’t provide adequate resources to their clients.

I believe we can balance the scales of justice in Oregon by sponsoring a bi-partisan bill to increase funding and resources to Public Defenders who can effectively challenge District Attorneys to carry the burden of proof. I believe such legislation will reduce false imprisonments, reduce sentencing and support the recovery of more alcoholics and addicts.

  • I place no judgement upon those of us who live as transexual. However, Gender Theory, which states one can choose and change their gender, from time to time, is pure and total nonsense. A male who decides he is a female should is not entitled to special rights. I support any adult to live the way they want and do what they want to their bodies. But Gender Theory must be eliminated from education curriculum. Womens’ safe spaces and sports must be protected from biological male interference.

  • As someone who grew up in inner city Portland and went to Benson and Grant High Schools in the 90’s, I can tell you that I appreciate and enjoy diversity. However, I believe that it is ignorant and racist to think that skin color tells you anything about a person. I believe that all legislation referring to superficial physical attributes should be repealed.

  • I reject the concept of “equity.” Equity is not equality. The idea that one group of Oregonians owes another group of Oregonians is a farce designed to pit groups of people against each other and condition the population to accept a class system. This has infiltrated our judicial system, education system and private sector and must be cleared out.

  • Pure nonsense from a government perspective. I believe the government should protect your freedom to live a better life. If you choose not to, then that’s on you and no one else. I believe the State should stay far, far away from your personal, everyday challenges.

  • I support and encourage legal migration to the United States and Oregon. I believe legal immigrants often make the best patriots. But I reject the idea that we should allow illegal migrants to burden taxpayers with housing and welfare while living in Oregon undocumented. The allowance of illegal aliens in Oregon bring too many nefarious actors involved in human and drug trafficking.

  • I was taught to recycle and care for the environment from a young age and, to this day, consider myself an environmentalist. I support urban heat zone mitigation, sustainable forest management, farming and fishing. I reject the idea that we are facing a “climate crisis.”

  • I reject the idea that China and other foreign agents should have the right to purchase our natural resources, own our farmland and financially influence our elections.

  • I reject the United Nation’s Agenda 2030. I’ll make sure Oregonians aren’t forced to live in 15 minute cities and eat bugs.

  • Abortions are legal in Oregon up until the moment of birth. That’s disgusting and I have yet to meet anyone (including liberals) who supports this. I certainly don’t. I believe abortion should be limited to 12 weeks (as in Europe) with no questions asked by the government. I also find it abhorrent that our tax dollars are used to finance abortions in Oregon. I think it is immoral to force someone who is vehemently against abortion to pay for abortions. The State needs to get out of the abortion finance business.
